FullFibre, a wholesale full fibre network provider along with its in-house ISP retail company, BeFibre, and Zzoomm, an established and rapidly growing full fibre business operator, have agreed to merge.

The enlarged group will have one of the largest full fibre footprints with some 600,000 properties ready for service and over 65,000 customers, and will also be well positioned for further M&A.

The merged business will be able to accelerate growth, enhance operational efficiency and lead on further M&A across the fragmented Altnet sector.

Matthew Hare, CEO of Zzoomm, will become Executive Chairman and James Warner, CEO of FullFibre, will be Group CEO.

The management teams from both companies have proven track records. They have the relevant experience, expertise and resources to lead and develop the enlarged group faster, providing outstanding broadband services to consumers, businesses and wholesale markets.

The merged entity combines two complementary networks and operating models. This will create significant opportunities to accelerate customer growth across a larger footprint, secure funding for new builds and future mergers, and achieve greater operational and financial efficiencies through economies of scale.

Additionally, the partnership will enhance wholesale services for internet service providers (ISPs), unlocking valuable new revenue streams.

The merger is subject to final documentation execution and regulatory approval, expected early in 2025.

Matthew Hare, CEO of Zzoomm, commented:

“With our clear focus on serving happy customers with brilliant broadband, Zzoomm has delivered for a number of years industry leading organic growth across its network.

“We have consistently stated our strategy is to grow organically and by M&A in this fragmented market.

“An enlarged business with the operational and financial infrastructure, benefitting from the economies of scale, as well as a management team with an exceptional track record, we will have an excellent platform to combine with other Altnets in the near future as well as driving organic growth faster.”

James Warner, CEO of FullFibre, commented:

“This merger represents another significant step in our journey. With a shared commitment to delivering transformational full fibre connectivity with exceptional customer experience, this deal strengthens our collective ability to grow even faster and seize new market opportunities.

“For FullFibre, this is our second merger and another milestone in our mission to create a 21st-century digital backbone for the nation. Following our recent successful integration with Digital Infrastructure and BeFibre, this next merger further accelerates our ambitions to lead the market and provide unmatched connectivity to homes, businesses, and wholesale partners alike.”

Zzoomm Steps in After Cable Damage Crisis

Zzoomm Saves the Day: Fast Repair and Neighbourly Support After fibre cables Damaged by Traffic Accident

Zzoomm, the Full Fibre broadband provider, lived up to its reputation after customers were left without a broadband connection when a vehicle damaged overhead cables in a traffic accident. Demonstrating its commitment to fast, reliable service, they restored service by running new fibre cables overhead within 6 hours of the incident. Zzoomm further restored service to more than their own customers, in a show of community spirit, when the neighbour was in dire need.

The Monday morning disruption occurred when an over-height vehicle damaged fibre cables connecting multiple homes to the internet along Northallerton Road, Brompton. The vehicle tore down the overhead cables on the telegraph poles as it drove down the road. The disruption not only affected Zzoomm customer Peter Robson, but many residents utilising the BT Openreach infrastructure on the very same telegraph poles.

Zzoomm immediately dispatched Regional Manager Craig Foggo to assess the situation and put together a plan to get all the effected customers reconnected. Hours later that same day, Akeel & Issy, two Zzoomm Field Service Engineers arrived on-site to make the repairs and to restore the connection successfully to the affected Zzoomm customers.

However, with the fibre cable damage affecting more than just Zzoomm’s network, some were reliant on other network operators to fix their connections.

BT weren’t bothered. Betty, my elderly neighbour had her son reach out to BT who weren’t bothered. Despite her condition they couldn’t get someone out until Wednesday. – Peter Robson, Zzoomm customer

Peter’s 93-year-old neighbour, Betty, relies on her broadband to stay connected, using her Alexa to make telephone calls. With no broadband and no sign of a quick fix, Betty was left isolated.

Peter wanted to help Betty and asked Craig what Zzoomm could do. Unable to repair and reconnect the BT infrastructure, Craig came up with an ingenious solution to help connect Betty right away. Craig installed one of Zzoomm’s Wireless Range Extenders in Betty’s home, connecting it to Peter’s now up back up and running Zzoomm Full Fibre broadband service, allowing Betty to piggy-back off Peter’s connection and stay connected to her family.

From the initial report of the accident to the final fix, it took around 6-hours for Craig, Akeel and Issy to get Zzoomm customers & Betty reconnected.

Peter Robson, Zzoomm customer,

That morning everything was fine, my wife went out about 8:10 in the morning but by the time she came back around 8:45, she asked what are those cables doing down the drive. I went to have a look, I walked out to the road and that’s when I saw the cables along the other side of the road just laying across the floor. That’s when I realised something had hit and hit the neighbours cables too, not just ours. I went straight on the phone with Zzoomm and reported it. On the call they said they let me know a time someone would arrive to take a look. I was called by 10:30 with assurances that someone would arrive at 13:00, well Craig arrived at 12:00 to assess and that’s when I told him about Betty next door.

BT weren’t interested. Betty, my elderly neighbour had her son reach out to BT who weren’t bothered. Despite her age and health condition they couldn’t get someone out until Wednesday. We were disgusted. Craig said he wasn’t having that.

We went straight round to Betty’s, Craig placed a booster in Betty’s bedroom which was strong enough to pick up my Wi-Fi so that Betty could use her Alexa.

Chris Collinson, CCO of Zzoomm commented:

The incident in Brompton, Northallerton, is a clear example of our team’s dedication to our customers and the wider community. I’m incredibly proud of Craig, Akeel and Issy for taking the initiative and going above and beyond to ensure even those who weren’t Zzoomm customers, like Betty, could stay connected when they needed it the most.

Connecting communities defines us a company.

Zzoomm are committed to delivering fast, reliable broadband services to our customers, and sometimes to those who aren’t yet.

Zzoomm, an established and rapidly growing Full Fibre business operating across 29 market towns and small urban communities, has recently seen four of its newer towns pass the 15% market penetration mark and are well onto their way to 20%.

Zzoomm is now providing its premier services to over 15% of the households in Penistone, Sherburn-in-Elmet, Sandbach, High Green & Chapeltown. This rapid growth in market penetration has been achieved on network builds that were completed only five months ago in Penistone and nine months ago in Sherburn-In-Elmet, High Green & Chapeltown.

Two weeks ago, Zzoomm confirmed that Hereford, Stokesley, Great Ayton and Thirsk had joined Northallerton with 20%+ market penetration.

Last month, the business launched a new 200Mbps service in response to uptake of its higher tier products; the 200 Full Fibre. It is almost three times faster than the UK national average download speed (69.4Mbps Ofcom, September 2023) and its symmetrical upload speeds are more than 10 times faster than the national average.

Matthew Hare, CE of Zzoomm commented:

Despite these four towns only having our network build finished a few months ago, we are seeing a very rapid take-up. This is a reflection of our premier service that meets our customers needs and our standout marketing and sales teams plus customer and field service operations.

One of the most recent customers from Penistone commented With Zzoomm, you’ll experience the speed and reliability of full-fibre broadband at its best. Say goodbye to sluggish downloads and long wait times. This is a broadband service that keeps up with your lifestyle.‘

Zzoomm, an established and rapidly growing Full Fibre business operating across 29 market towns and small urban communities, has seen four key towns reach the notable milestone of 20% market penetration.

Zzoomm is now providing its premier services to one in five properties in Hereford, Stokesley & Great Ayton and Thirsk. This 20% market penetration has been achieved on network builds which finished only 15 months ago for Hereford, Stokesley and Great Ayton and 25 months for Thirsk respectively.

Two weeks ago, Zzoomm confirmed that Northallerton had also reached the 20% market penetration milestone.

Last week, the business launched a new 200Mbps service, 200 Full Fibre. It is almost three times faster than the UK national average download speed (69.4Mbps Ofcom, September 2024) and its symmetrical upload speeds are more than 10 times faster than the national average.

Matthew Hare, CE Zzoomm commented:

We are seeing notable take-up of our services across our networks driven by our excellent marketing and sales teams, supported by our customer and field service operations.

As one of our new Zzoomm customers, James Potter commented via Trustpilot. “Everything is working well after one month at 1Gb speed. No install hassle. UK based technical support staff were very helpful during set-up process. The extra speed is preventing buffering across several devices running simultaneously. Thus far well worth the change.

“It’s a testament to all those working at Zzoomm that one in five properties across a number of our market towns are now Zzoommers. We are meeting the needs of our customers with our premier service – be it for working from home or multi-person gaming or multiple streaming.

“A few weeks ago, we confirmed that nationally we have some 30,000 contracted customers and more than 200,000 ready for service (RFS) properties — the former has continued to increase as we are now adding 1,500 new customers each month. This represents a 15% uptake on a network which has been available for an average of only 17 months.

This update ensures that our customers, future and existing, not only stay ahead of the digital curve but enjoy symmetrical speeds that significantly surpass the national average.

Key factor in driving industry leading sales growth

Zzoomm, an established and rapidly growing Full Fibre business operating across 29 market towns and small urban communities, had the fastest UK home broadband speed in H1 2024, according to ISPreview, the independent ISP and mobile operator commentator and content provider (see: here).

ISPreview’s survey highlights that Zzoomm’s full fibre average download speed in H1 2024 was 1051.9Mbps, the fastest amongst the Alt Net providers tested.

Zzoommers are making the most of their gigabit network, testament to the excellent work undertaken by the team at Zzoomm.

As demand for broadband increases across their network, Zzoomm are well positioned to ensure that they can continue to support a growing base as they imminently scale towards 15% penetration.

Matthew Hare, Chief Executive commented:

“We have always put the delivery of an exceptional service to happy customers, first and foremost. This has been based on two key components – all round service and our outstanding network.

“Our ability to provide industry leading download speeds to ensure our customers have the best Full Fibre access is one of the main reasons why we have a market leading rate of take up by new customers across all our geographies.”
