How do I tether from my phone in an outage?

If you suffer an outage but need to connect a home device to the internet, you could always ‘hotspot’ it from your phone. Just be aware, the cost may not be included in your mobile contract.

iPhone

  1. Open “Settings”
    1. Go to “Personal Hotspot” and toggle it on.
    1. Connect your device:
    1. On the device you want to tether, turn on Wi-Fi.
    1. Find your iPhone’s network and connect using the provided password.

Now, your device is tethered to your iPhone, and you can use its data connection. Watch your data usage, as it may impact your mobile plan.

Android

  1. Open “Settings”
    1. Look for “Hotspot” or “Tethering” and turn it on.
    1. Configure your Hotspot/Tethering settings, including a network name and password.
    1. On the device you want to tether, turn on Wi-Fi.
    1. Find your Android hotspot in available Wi-Fi networks and connect using the provided password.

Now, your device is tethered to your Android, and you can use its data connection. Keep an eye on your data usage to manage your mobile plan effectively.
