Sometimes, we’re asked by customers if getting full fibre broadband is necessary for a household of two. The truth is, it all depends on your usage. Even if there’s just two of you in the home, you might be using more bandwidth than you think. Working from home and making video calls is a biggie for draining upload and download speeds. So is gaming, streaming services and in home security devices like Ring doorbells and compact security systems.
So if you’re an avid Netflix watcher, gamer and owner of more smart devices than you can count on one hand, then Full Fibre might just be for you.
Having been connected to our full fibre broadband for nearly a year, we caught up with Emma to find out about her experience with Zzoomm, the importance of a fast and reliable internet connection for her and her partner, and most importantly – whether she would recommend Zzoomm to her friends and family!
Who’s in your household?
It’s just me and my partner!
Why did you decide to switch to Zzoomm Full Fibre broadband?
Since lockdown, we noticed our broadband lagging more and more – so much so that we couldn’t be on the internet at the same time if I was watching Netflix or my partner was gaming with his friends.
We’d heard of Zzoomm being in the area for some time, so decided to do a little research and saw some decent reviews on the speed and decided to go for it.
What do you use your broadband for most?
We’re in our 20’s, so we don’t have a family to cater for and entertain, but we do use the internet a lot on things that seem to take up a lot of bandwidth. For example, my partner games a lot in the evenings and I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime daily. We also have a hybrid working set up which means we’ll sometimes be on Teams calls throughout the week.
What was your broadband like before you decide to make the switch?
It sounds very typical and not to sound dramatic, but it was awful. We couldn’t get a very good signal in the upstairs of our home and we would often find ourselves switching the router and on and off several times a week in order for it to “kickstart” itself.
How did you find the installation process?
I was a little apprehensive at first as we haven’t had anything done like this in our home before. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I had in my mind that it was going to take a whole day of my time – I was wrong! It was actually pretty quick, it took around 2 hours and I’d been given an installation slot a couple days before so I knew when the guys were going to be arriving.
One of the best parts about the installation was the team were really informative about what was going to happen. They took me and my partner through a step by step guide, and they even asked us where we wanted the router positioned. They also gave their recommendations to make sure we get the best performance based on our house layout.
In the end, we settled for the living room, as this is our central hub in our home and provides us easy access to the router when needed.
Another plus – they were pretty big fans of my dog!
Were there any concerns you had prior to making the switch?
As I mentioned, the only slight concern I had was the installation, but this was quickly put at rest once the team took me through what was going to happen prior to getting on with the work.
What have you noticed most about switching to Full Fibre?
The speed! I didn’t think I would notice a huge difference, but for the past 6 months of having Zzoomm, I’m yet to see that wheel of doom on my TV screen which was my biggest peeve. My partner has also noticed that because of the faster upload speeds and lower latency, there’s been little to no interruptions to his gaming, even in the evenings when it’s the busiest time.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of switching to Full Fibre broadband?
I would say if you’ve been thinking about it, then absolutely go for it. We wouldn’t be without a full fibre connection now and can confidently say we’re happy with Zzoomm.
