We know how overwhelming it can be when it comes to thinking about switching broadband providers. You might already know the service you’re receiving isn’t up to standard or can’t support what you need with all your devices at home. Perhaps you think your current broadband ‘does the job’ and waiting until something happens seems a lot less hassle. Either way, finding the time to look into what’s on offer never seems to take priority.

We met with Bryan Roddie, Zzoomm’s Henley Customer Sales Manager who is a Full Fibre broadband fanatic and expert in those who wish to switch to Zzoomm. This article will guide you through the top information to look out for when switching providers, and just how straight forward it is to switch to a Full Fibre provider like us.

Bryan, before we kick off, tell us a little more about your role at Zzoomm

I’m Henley Customer Sales Manager at the Zzoomm. Were a pretty small team but are always on hand to answer customer calls, emails and online chats about any questions they have – big or small. We can offer help on which broadband service speed would work best for you, the technical questions behind Full Fibre broadband, how to go about switching, which product is right for you and of course getting you ready for our amazing engineers to get you up and running.

Just how would someone know what kind of connection would suit them best?

Trying to figure out what the best options are for you doesn’t have to feel like a minefield. Often, customers guess what speed they need and tend to opt for the cheaper services in the hope they’ll be able to make do. It’s always helpful to start with a few questions for our customers to consider when thinking about what Full Fibre options fit criteria.

Considerations include:
  • Do you work from home and have trouble with a connection that lags, glitches and is unreliable on important calls?
  • Are you a household with many iPhones, laptops, Playstations, Apple watches and a home fit with smart doorbells and home devices like Hive?
  • How many devices do you actually have connected? Don’t forget the baby monitors and Kindles.
  • Do you find your iPlayer (or similar) to be constantly buffering or taking forever to load?
  • Ever find yourself turning the Wi-Fi on and off in the hope that helps reboot connection?
  • Do you have avid gamers in the house complaining about lag?

There are many lifestyle factors to consider when choosing the best broadband for you, and that’s what our team at Zzoomm can help with.

We have created a speed calculator which helps with determining the best speed for your needs. Have a go and see what you get.

What would you say is your most important piece of advice to customers who are looking to switch?

First and foremost is to check when your contract ends. If you have been with the same provider for over a year or well over that, the likelihood is you are already paying more than you should and not getting your money’s worth. You may be on a monthly rollover period where your service price is now much higher than you signed up for.

We all love a bargain and when it comes to broadband consumers tend to think ‘how different can all these services be and are the operators all the same?’ But believe me, they do differ by speed, resilience and customer service. My advice is don’t just opt for the cheapest option.

With the world changing and our work and home life merging, we‘re using our broadband now more than ever. Gone are the days when we only had our computers, TV’s and phones. Many customers now have smart technology all over the home which all needs to be connected to your broadband for it to work. Don’t be left behind with unreliable speeds that you can’t change within your contract periodget hit with unexpected and unfair price hikes or be stung by early leaving penalty charges

To  summarise:
  • Check when your contact ends with your current provider to plan your switch at the right time.
  • Don’t go for the cheapest option, especially in long running contracts.
  • Understand what speeds you need to fit your lifestyle, not the other way round
  • Try and understand whether your current connection is Full Fibre to your home or just to the local cabinet, if it’s the latter then your speed will be limited. The reality at our Henley build is that only Zzoomm offer you Full Fibre directly to your house.
  • Make sure to think about upload speed as well as down, it makes those video calls a dream
  • Don’t be left behind with unreliable speeds that you can’t challenge within your contract period.

What other considerations are there when switching broadband providers?

If you have some time to go until your contract ends, bare the end date in mind by jotting it in your calendar or opting for a ‘buy now switch later’ method. This means that while you won’t incur those cancellation fees, you may have a short term increase in service cost, but over the course of your contract it would be outweighed by the benefits and savings you make long term

Another great thing about Zzoomm is that the contract term is only 12 months, and most competitors offer 18 or 24-month contracts. In these choppy times, having a shorter term contract, with no unwelcome price hike versus being locked into a 24-month agreement with early termination fees and price rises feels to us like a better way to support you.

I’d also suggest those looking to switch to consider customer care. Time is valuable and excellent customer service from enquiry stages all the way through to aftercare is invaluable. If you are working from home and rely on connection, the difference between getting through to the customer care team in a matter of minutes vs hours is a big chunk in the working day! I’m proud that Zzoomm can offer real human help, quick email conversations, phone or even chatbots and in the event that anything goes wrong we are local and on hand to make sure that its fixed really quickly.

To summarise:
  • Check your contract terms to ensure there are no hefty cancellation payments.
  • Zzoomm offer contracts no longer than 12 months. Most other well-known providers only provide a minimum of 18 or 24 month agreements which is a long time when considering how fast the world is changing
  • If customer service is valuable to you, ensure there is an efficient customer care team at the end of the phone to help with any questions or problems you may have
  • Check if customer support is local. Can your provider be on your door stop within a very short period of time to offer advice, repairs and peace of mind?

What do you think makes Zzoomm different to the more well-known broadband providers on the market

Taking a leap of faith in an alternative broadband provider isn’t a risk, even if you have been with other providers like BT and Sky for a number of years. I can guarantee by putting your trust into our technology you will be able to reap the benefits in a number of ways. You only need to look at our Trustpilot reviews to see what our customers are saying.

The speeds we offer for homes and businesses are incomparable. Only 18% of households in the UK currently have access to Full Fibre broadband and we are the only supplier in Henley. The last 12 months have seen a staggering shift in working patterns for millions of people and the merge of home and work is set to stay. Investing in Full Fibre networks means you can future proof your home to reliably cater for your digital needs for decades to come.

We pride ourselves on our customer care. But don’t just take my word for it, speak with your neighbours and friends as more than one in five homes in Henley now have Zzoomm.

21st century homes and lifestyles need 21st century services. Full Fibre broadband, like Zzoomm, can add value to your property which will make it much more appealable to potential buyers and renters in the future
